K-pop’s most beloved girls are back and just as iconic as ever.
After a hiatus of 5 years, Girls’ Generation have re-entered the K-pop scene in time for their 15th year anniversary with the nostalgia inducing ‘Forever 1’ - an upbeat, fun track that personally has me tearing up.
The heartwarming comeback is one for the fans, with remnants of debut track ‘Into The New World’ and lyrics such as “We’re not stopping” and “We are one” , it’s hard not to get emotional. ‘Forever 1’ is an easy listen, the lyrically emotive pop-dance track has a hopeful vibe and feels like a pat on the back.
The girls described ‘Forever 1’ as “eternal love for precious people who give strength anytime and anywhere” and the bright vibe of the track supports that.
The music video pays homage to Girls’ Generation and we see the highs of their career: including the celebrated ‘Genie’ helipad performance (which had a viewership in Korea of over 8 million!) and a throwback to their US debut single ‘The Boys’.
It also shows the girls still thriving in the present day — with shoutouts to TAEYEON’s flourishing solo career, TIFFANY’s LA move and SOOYOUNG’s acting career — all in all reassuring fans that although they’re following their individual dreams, they are ‘Forever 1’ and will keep the name Girls’ Generation with them endlessly.
‘Forever 1’ screams growth, from SOOYOUNG and TIFFANY working lyrically on 2 album tracks to visually displaying their own maturation over the years. Whether or not the girls continue to promote as Girls’ Generation, leaving the fans behind with a highly-anticipated fan-based track shows they really do care. And what better way to commemorate your 15th anniversary than owing it all to your supporters.
